Choosing natural products is about knowing what's in the bottle and picking ingredients that feel good on your skin. Here are four reasons many people make the switch.
Many conventional soaps, shampoos and body washes use sulfates like sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS). Sulfates are surfactants, which are cleansers that lift away dirt and oil. They work well and cost little, which is why SLS also shows up in industrial cleaners. That strength can be too much for some people. SLS is even used in skin research as a standard irritant for testing.
Natural formulas use milder, plant-derived cleansers instead. Our Lavender Bergamot Body Wash is sulfate-free. It's made with coco glucoside, honey, aloe, and coconut, olive and hemp seed oils, so skin feels clean without feeling tight.
Everything you wash with rinses into the water system. Plant-based cleansers and oils are a simple way to cut back on harsh synthetic ingredients. Refills help too. One 64 oz refill of our Peppermint Foaming Hand Soap fills the 16 oz pump bottle four times, which means less plastic and a lower cost per ounce.
Parabens are common preservatives. You may have heard concerns about them. The FDA says it doesn't currently have evidence that parabens in cosmetics harm health, but many people still prefer to avoid them. If that's you, check the label. Our body washes and foaming hand soaps are paraben-free and use rosemary leaf extract in the formula.
Synthetic fragrance blends can bother some people's skin or senses. Many of our products get their scent from essential oils instead. Our Honey & Oat Bar Soap, for example, smells of peppermint and grapefruit oils with no synthetic fragrance.
Prefer no added scent at all? Try our Fragrance-Free Honey Hand & Body Cream or Fragrance-Free Castile Liquid Soap. If your skin reacts easily, patch-test new products first, since essential oils can be sensitizing too.
You don't have to swap everything at once. Start with the product you use most, like hand soap, body wash or shampoo. Our Honey Shampoo is a sulfate-free place to start. Browse all of our natural skin and body care, made in small batches in Ohio.
